The 1,25 hectare residential area is home to approximately 16,810 people residing in 4,000 housing units of medium to high economies. Nowadays, Kota Baru Parahyangan is going through developmental growth in its second phase which will result in the construction of 10,000 housing units which is predicted to finish in 2035. Like other elite areas, the generation of inorganic solid waste in Kota Baru Parahyangan dominates that of that in areas of medium to lower economies. The result of solid waste generation sampling during a period of 8 days, shows that of the total solid waste generated, as much as 54% of it is inorganic. Unfortunately, Kota Baru Parahyangan has yet to have a facility that handles inorganic solid waste especially those that still possess economic value and is still possible to be recycled. In the existing system, all the inorganic solid waste that is generated in Kota Baru Parahyangan will be collected in the temporary storage area and will be transported by UPT Kebersihan to Sarimukti landfill. With that in mind, the construction of a materials recovery facility (MRF) is expected to be able to minimize the amount of inorganic solid waste that is directly transported to Sarimukti landfill. The planned MRF is of the semi-mechanic type and is designed to be able to operate until 2035 where the number of housing units by then has reached 10,000 units with a capacity of 38.5 tons of waste each day. In the end, all the waste will be sorted and handled accordingly to its sort. Organic solid waste will be handled in the food waste processing facility, hazardous waste will be handled by a third party, recyclable solid waste will be transferred to a recycling facility, and the solid waste that can’t be handled by any means is transported to the Sarimukti landfill as residue. The MRF that will be constructed has an area of 1,680 m2 with a dimension of 56 m x 30 m. The construction of MRF will cost Rp. 14,009,277,385.00. The presence of MRF is expected to reduce the solid waste that is transported to Sarimukti landfill by 75.12% from all the waste that is generated or 29.07 tons each day. text
