Hery Wijayanto, MP. ETD Sumateran Elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranus) is one of The Asian Elephants subspecies (Elephas maximus) in Sumatera island. The corelation between body size and body weight has been reported by Hill et al (1997) and Kanchanapangka et al., (2007) but there is no researches on correlation of carpal circumference and the body size of Sumateran Elephant. The purpose of the research is to find the corelation between the carpal circumference and body size (body length, shoulder height, chest girth, pelvic width, and distance between angulus scapulae caudalis and tuber coxae) in the adult Sumateran Elephants (>20 years old) and young Sumateran Elephants (<20 years old). From the corelation obtained, the equation relating the tarsal circumference and body size variables will be derived. Data collection were made using modified calipers and measuring tape in Gembira Loka Zoo, Taman Wisata Borobudur, and Taman Safari Indonesia 2 Prigen. The data obtained were statistically analyzed using correlation and regression with Microsoft Excel 2010 and SPSS 16 software to identify the correlation of the carpal circumference and body size. The linear regressions of both adult and young elephants carpal circumference and body length are y = 2,2808x + 107,94 and y = 4,2029x 71,742 respectively. For shoulder height are y = 1,4969x + 103,86 and y = 3,0706x 34,178. The chest girth are y = 2,1026x + 160,12 and y = 3,95x + 7,7167. For pelvic width are y = 0,6957x + 64,56 and y = 1,6412x 17,19. And linear regressions of both adult and young elephants carpal circumference and distance between angulus scapulae caudalis and tuber coxae are y = 0,2514x + 91,127 and y = 1,6265x 21,146 respectively. The results show that the carpal circumference have moderate relation with chest girth of adult elephants [Yogyakarta] : Universitas Gadjah Mada 2013 Thesis NonPeerReviewed , S ELITA BARBARA and , Dr. drh.
