Description
Summary:Background: The metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a clustering of components that reflect overnutrition, sedentary lifestyles, and resultant excess adiposity. The MetS includes the clustering of hypertension, hyperglycemia, hypertriglyceridemia, reduced highdensity lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and abdominal obesity. Aim: This study was aimed at determine whether the combination of metformin and telmisartan reduce the body index in metabolic syndrome patients. Besides that, it is also to know whether the combination of metformin and telmisartan can provide a better outcome compare to the sole administration of metformin or telmisartan respectively. Method: This research design was one quasi experiment which is one group pre-test and post-test design. Total of 27 patients in Internal Medicine Policlinic in RSUP DR. Sardjito Yogyakarta were recruited. The changes of body mass index before and after the administration of the combination therapy was evaluated by using paired-T test. Result: The results revealed that the changes of body mass index before and after the combination administration of metformin and telmisartan in metabolic syndrome were statically insignificant. Conclusion: This experiment concludes that the influences of the use of the combination of telmisartan and metformin towards body mass index in metabolic syndrome patients were not significant.
