Description
Summary:In direct compression method of propranolol HC1 tablet, the properties of tablet mass, i.e. flowability, homogeneity and the compactibility are need to be known. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the concentration and the interaction of the tablet components, i.e. ethyl cellulose (XA) and magnesium stearate (XB) on the physical properties of propranolol HCI tablet mass. Factorial design of 22 was used, i.e. XA and XB with low level of 100 and 0.25%, respectively, and high level of 400 and 2%, respectively. XA level was from propranolol HC1 weight, while XB level was from tablet weight. The flowability parameter was Index Tap (%), the homogeneity parameter was coeficient of variation (CV, %) and the compactibility parameter was the tablet hardness (kg). The significancy of the factor/interaction effect was tested with Yates treatment followed by Anova. Increasing of ethyl cellulose concentration signicantly improved the flowability, compactibility and decreased the homogeneity of tablet mass. Increasing magnesium stearate concentration significantly improved the flowability and decreased the compactibility of tablet mass. Ethyl cellulose-magnesium stearat interaction significantly decreased the compactibility. Keywords : ethyl cellulose, magnesium stearate, propranolol HCl, physical properties of tablet mass
