الملخص:An experiment was done to study the root characteristics of corn and soybean and to measure the character quantitatively. Corn seeds ofAn una variety and soybean seeds of Wills variety were planted either alone, together or with cogongrass amperata cylindrics) in a wooden boxes of size 75 x 60 x 12 cm filled with 3:1 mixture of soil and manure. When corn and soybean were planted together, they were distanced at 20 cm. Cogdngrass was planted at both sides of the plants. For each box, 1,1 g urea, 0,8 TSP and 0,8g KCl was applied Corn and soybean planted singly showed symmetrical root distribution. The symmetrical feature was disturbed when they were grown together. The presence of cogongrass greatly affected root distribution of soybean plants but did not show any affect on that of corn. Characterization of root distribution could only be done through nonlinear regression approach using of one parameter curve of half normal. Keywords: corn -- soybean root distribution pattern
