This study designed as double-blind randomized controlled trial, had been
conducted at Public Health Center of Umbulharjo I, Kotagede II and Gedongtengen,

improvement severity of symptoms and later being analyzed using chi-square test.
Result shows that no significant difference in basic characteristic of the subjects
in both therapy groups. After 7 days of treatment, no significantly difference in
proportion of clinical improvement in zinc group with those of in placebo group upon
children with common cold, subject undergoing treatment for zinc showed 80,7% while
placebo 78,9% with p value of 0,83. There was 2 child suffered from vomitting after
receiving zinc, and 2 child suffered from sleepy in placebo group. As a conclusion, zinc
did not decrease severity of common cold compared to placebo in treating children 3-5
