Summary: | Papaya seeds have been used since ancient times in folklore medicine for treatment of various diseases; nowadays these are researched in a
scientific way to standardize their beneficial medicinal and nutritional properties. Seeds contain many bio-active ingredients. Normally, seeds
are wasted in spite of their nutraceutical values. This study will help to save the wastage of papaya seeds. This study was planned to assess the
pharmacological aspects of seeds of Carica papaya on haematological parameters so may be useful as a substitute treatment option for various
hematological diseases.
For this study thirty adult and healthy female rabbits were selected and subdivided into two groups, Group A (Control) n=15, given only fresh
hay & water and Group B (study) n=15, given papaya seeds powder as dose of 500mg once a day along with fresh hay & water provided ad
libitum, then complete blood picture tests were performed on Day 0, 15, 30, 45 & 60 at Diagnostic & Research Laboratory PUMHSW-SBA,
to observe the effects of papaya seeds on haematological parameters. No significant change was seen in haemoglobin percentage, it remained
within the normal reference range. The significant increment was seen in RBCs (10.52%) in Group-B (study) up to day-45, decreased levels
seen in HCT, MCV, MCH, and MCHC in Group-B (study) in comparison of the Group-A (control).Papaya seeds raised the RBCs counts, no
significant effect seen in haemoglobin percentage. So Papaya seeds can be utilized in several therapies and medical applications because of its
effectiveness, availability and safety. |
