Summary: | Cupping is one of the traditional and modern modes of treatment which has been proven that could heal many diseases. Islam also acknowledges this kind of treatment since the Prophet Muhammad SAW lifetime. Even though the Holy Quran does not reveal any verse on cupping, yet the various Prophetic traditions in Hadith's literature shows its legality and importance. The main objective of this paper is to provide a proper understanding of the concept of modern cupping based on the Hadith "The best what you treat yourselves is Cupping, or it is the best of your medicine". This paper is also aiming to clarify some misconceptions on the selected Hadith of cupping,. In fact, the researcher had made a practical research at "AKU BEKAM"; one of the modern cupping centers at Taman Tun Dr. Ismail. The researcher had also experienced using traditional cupping method. It is crucial to discuss this topic for certain reason; there are some writings established on the Hadith which explain benefits of cupping without detailed explanation of the meaning of the Hadith, there is also lack of study which focus on cupping based on the authentic. Hadith in term of its transmission and meaning, and there is only a few of studies which discussed modern cupping in the light of Prophetic medication. The classification of this paper is as follow:
Introduction- Research background, research significance, objectives of the study, research questions, research scope, and research methodology. Part One: An introduction of cupping-briefly discusses the definition and concept of cupping, its historical background and types of cupping. Part Two: Modern cupping - "AKU BEKAM" as a sample of study. Part Three: The study of the Hadith "The best what you treat yourselves is Cupping, or it is the best of your medicine" in term of its transmission, meaning and misconception. |
