The prevalence of GCI is significant higher in women 20 or younger. About 2/3rd of women in the age group were diagnosed to have GCT. Fertility sapring surgery are commonly carried out in women with GCT as compared to EOT. Many studies have shown that this approach is safe in GCT as the majority were stage 1 at diagnosis. In term of survival, there is no significant difference between GCT and EOT. This is largly due to the fact that the majority women in this study were stage 1 at diagnosis. Many authors have reported 5- year survival rate for stage 1 ovarian tumours in young women are ranging from 95-97%. In this study, fertility sparing surgery seem to be associated with significantly better survival compared to radical surgery. This is due to the fact the majority of women in this group were having GCT which higher percentage of optimal cytoreduction and stage 1 disease during the initial treatment. 2013-10 Conference or Workshop Item REM application/pdf en http://irep.iium.edu.my/33938/1/poster-ProfMokhtar.pdf application/pdf en http://irep.iium.edu.my/33938/2/cert-ESOGProfmokhtar.pdf Awang, Mokhtar (2013) Outcomes of ovarian cancer in young women in Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan, Kuantan Malaysia: 2006-2012.
