Assessment methods are also commonly classified as either being traditional, alternative or authentic depending on the nature of the task used in the assessment procedure. Alternative assessments usually involve real life tasks and are often multidimensional; thus, more holistic in the assessment of learning. On the other hand, the tasks that are considered “traditional” are largely about demonstration of knowledge through paper and pencil tests. Hence, traditional assessments often refer to assessments that use conventional and standardized methods of assessing knowledge and skills. Item types or formats such as Multiplechoice Question (MCQ), True/False, Matching, Fill in the Blanks, Short Answer Question and Long Essay are usually features of traditional assessment.
