Abstract – An analysis was conducted to study the deformation behavior of the motorcycle front wheel rim when subjected to frontal crash under different speed in the range from 0 km/h up to 120 km/h. This design analysis has been performed using CATIA and Abaqus. Two types of motorcycle wheel rim commonly used by the Malaysian motorist, Spoke wheel rim and Solid wheel rim have been modeled using CATIA according to the standard specification. Then, Abaqus analyzes the rim models and supports the entire crash simulation process. Analysis results are presented in terms of the maximum stress and the maximum displacement deformed by the wheels. It was found that the Solid wheel rim absorbs more stress than the Spoke wheel rim when subjected to different speeds of crash. The displacement of the Solid wheel rim is higher than the Spoke wheel rim from 0 km/h up to 20 km/h speed of crash. Intermediately in the range from 20 km/h up to 100 km/h, the displacement of the Spoke wheel rim is higher than the Solid wheel rim. Finally, at 100 km/h above, the displacement of the Solid wheel rim is higher than the Spoke wheel rim. These are presented in graph, followed with a brief discussion. 2014-03-17T02:03:45Z 2014-03-17T02:03:45Z 2014-03-17 http://ir.unikl.edu.my/jspui/handle/123456789/5865
