Description
Summary:This study was conducted with the objectives to isolate Rigidoporus sp., plant pathogen infecting rubber tree, and to evaluate the interaction pattern between Rigidoporus sp. with selected microbes. Samples of fruiting bodies of Rigidoporus sp. were collected from UNIMAS arboretum. The pathogen Rigidoporus sp. was successfully isolated on PDA media using direct method. Six isolates of microbes were used for the interaction studies, which were Aspergil/us sp., Trichoderma sp., Penicillium sp., Gliocladium sp., Bacteria G and Bacteria Z . Three different inoculation methods used were simultaneously inoculated, pathogen inoculated first and microbes inculated first. Three different interaction mechanisms were revealed which were mycoparasitism, competition and antibiosis. Inhibitory effect of the antagonistic microbes was assessed by measuring the radial growth reduction of the pathogen. Trichoderma sp. and Gliocladium sp. exhibited the most effective in reducing the growth of Rigidoporus sp. Only Bacteria Z produce antifungal effect by producing inhibition zone.
