The lack of security system has been causing a lot of robbery cases that become a serious problem. Thus, a security monitoring system is required to avoid any unpleasant incident. This paper presents the design and development of a prototype mobile security robot. The security robot is capable of patrolling an area without human interaction and gives warning whenever it detects intruder motion. It is operated in an indoor environment and navigates itself on a flat horizontal surface. In addition, the robot is designed to avoid obstacles and moves autonomously. The proposed robot utilizes a microcontroller as its brain, RC servo motor is to run the wheels, a buzzer is to produce alarm system, passive infrared (PIR) and infrared (IR) sensors are to detect motion and obstacles, respectively. On the other hand, the robot should also be less in weight, stable, moves fast and affordable in price. The performance analysis of the sensors is performed to identify the sensitivity distance, color obstacle effect, coverage area and maximum range for motion detection. The results show that the robot gives a good performance in detecting motion and moves autonomously as well as avoiding obstacles that suitable to be utilized for mobile security robot. 2011-11 Conference or Workshop Item PeerReviewed application/pdf en http://eprints.utem.edu.my/id/eprint/10829/1/Design_and_Development_of_Mobile_Security_Robot.pdf Ali, Fara Ashikin and Abdullah, Abdul Rahim and Mohd Said, Nurul Ain and Abu Hassan, Mohd Fareezie (2011) Design and Development of Mobile Security Robot.
