The unique combination of the cations and anions give low melting points, high thermal stability, liquidity over a wide temperature range, negligible vapor pressures, low inflammability, highly solvating capacity for both polar and non polar compounds and high electrical conductivity. ILs are receiving much attention in many important areas of research and commercial applications such as absorption media for gas separations, solvents for reactions, heat transfer fluids, separating agent in extractive distillation, for processing biomass, as the working fluid in a variety of electrochemical applications (batteries, capacitors, solar cells, etc.), as lubricants and in biocatalysts. 2010-06 Conference or Workshop Item NonPeerReviewed application/msword http://eprints.utp.edu.my/2471/1/Cecilia-abstract-Ionic_liquids.doc C.D., Wilfred (2010) Ionic Liquids-your green solution.
