Description
Summary:The recruitment of athletes from the rural areas of the Philippines is a recurring phenomenon. Young athletes are scouted during regional and national competitions among high schools. Coaches from universities in Metro Manila recruit promising athletes for their teams. Scholarships are offered, some include housing and allowance, in exchange for their devotion of time and strength to represent the university in their respective sports. The character of Melissa San Jose, a track and field runner, is a portrayal of a young athlete who competed in a regional competition, and scouted by a coach from Metro Manila. The potential to compete in a bigger league paved way to an opportunity to study in a university. She faces struggles as she fulfills her responsibilities as a student-athlete.
