Investigating the role of parental support in facilitating the relationship between socioeconomic status and student's achievement goals: A mediational study

There is very little literature about the effect of SES on achievement goals. This research intended to investigate the role of parental support in facilitating the relationship between socioeconomic status and achievement goals. Results show that SES is not a good predictor for achievement goals and parental support does not facilitate the relationship between socioeconomic status and achievement goals despite the high correlation between the two. Results from the Path Analysis model are as follows. SES to parental support has a regression weight of -.09. The path from SES to parental support was not significant. On the other hand, parental support to achievement goals yielded a significant result with a regression weight of .27 (p < .05). Students were found to be highly mastery oriented regardless of their position in the economic spectrum.
