الملخص: | This paper analyzes the relationship existing between poverty and environment with deforestation serving as a proxy for the environment. The two way relationship existing between poverty and environment is subject to recent debates. Linkages between the two are said to be country specific and geographical thus the results differ for every country. Secondary data was utilized and variables such as deforestation, literacy rate, unemployment, gross regional domestic product, population density, gross value added on forestry and poverty incidence were used. The framework used to fully understand the linkages is the Poverty Population Environment Spiral. Regression analysis was applied and Stata 8.0 was utilized. The results proved that the two way relationship exists in the Philippines and deforestation significantly affects poverty and the drivers of poverty likewise affect deforestation. |
