Population study of echinoderms in selected areas of Talin Bay, Matuod, Batangas.

Echinoderm population study was conducted in Talin Bay, Matuod, Batangas using the transect/quadrat method. Six echinoderm species were found within the sampling area namely: Protoreaster nodosus, Ophipcoma scolopendrina, Holothuria pulla, Holothuria scapra, Opheodesoma grisea, and Diadema setosum.Five mathematical analysis were employed to evaluate the data specifically species frequency, population dispersion, index of dominance, index of diversity and density.Average frequency, the average number of occurence of species within the sampling area ranges from 0.2 as exemplified by Holothuria pulla to 9.2 as manifested by Diadema setosum.Population dispersion ranged from rancom, uniform to clumped distribution.A definite pattern of displacement was observed between Diadema setosum and Protoreaster nodosus in the dominance index.The index of diversity conveyed an indication ofa disturbed ecosystem.Fluctuations and oscillations were evident in the densities of all the species.
