Singapore, as we are moving towards the smart city, will address such unsustainable issues through new technologies and business model. When a bottle of water is purchased, what we need is only the water and the service of portable water. A personal reusable water bottle makes water accessible. However, potential health concerns associated with a reusable water bottle, especially in warm countries such as Singapore might cause potential health issues. The project is, therefore, looking for a way to reduce single-time bottle usage, while providing the portable water service everywhere without the need of carrying personal bottles. The project functioned similarly to the concept of a vending machine where one can purchase water at each machine. The machine provides water within a reusable water bottle; the machine is also a drop-off point where the used water bottle is washed and cleaned for the next usage. In order to facilitate the project, App development is the first step as it is the most convenient and accessible tools that connects the user with the supplier, especially in Singapore, where smartphone penetration is as high as 84%. [12] Apart from the app, the design of the machine is envisioned with 3D prototyping. Furthermore, a sustainable business plan is proposed, situate the project in Singapore’s context, and how it is a viable solution for Singapore. To sum up, the project is a business prototype targeting the existing gap in the market. The project has considered the shared economy, aiming for a social enterprise that promotes a solution with positive environmental and social impact.
