Description
Summary:Tensile testing is used to determine a material's mechanical behaviour when subjected to tension. It is a part of the material testing process where the engineers determine if the material is appropriate for a certain application. This final year project (FYP) focuses on modelling two types of experiments, namely the Static Tensile Test and the Dynamic Tensile Test. The material of the specimen used for this simulation is Aluminium 6061-T66061-T6. Static Tensile Test is performed using the universal testing machine because of the low strain rate condition while Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar set up is used for high strain rate conditions for dynamic tensile test. Several simulations are performed using a commercial Finite element analysis software package called ANSYS. The geometric model is modelled in Solidworks or SpaceClaim; a Computer-Aided Design software. Simulation results will be validated with past experiments conducted by previous FYP students.
