Summary:In recent years, the popularity of sleep monitoring systems has increased, as they provide essential information about a person's health during sleep. Heartbeat and respiration are two vital sign signals that can indicate a person's overall health condition during sleep. As the population ages, it presents numerous social and economic challenges to society. One of these challenges is the increased healthcare expenditure and social burden. However, modern pervasive computing technology can help address this issue by allowing for the continuous monitoring of the health status of older adults who live in the community. Early detection of health issues through these technologies can lead to reduced treatment costs and the initiation of targeted preventive measures, resulting in better health outcomes. Sleep plays a crucial role in overall health, and many health issues are associated with sleep deteriorations. Wearable devices have been extensively used at home or in sleep laboratories to study sleep quality and disorders like sleep apnea syndrome. However, little research has been conducted on the potential of contactless and continuous sleep monitoring to detect early signs of health problems in older adults who live in the community.
