الملخص:This thesis deals with performance enhancement of the LED mouse by studying and modifying its optical parts. LED mouse has poor performance on smooth and specular surfaces. The resolution and contrast are fundamental optical consideration for such a navigation system. The problem involves interaction among many optical parameters and also the cost. A too high resolution sensor may not necessarily improve the mouse navigation and end up in raising cost because of an old optical architecture. Besides, the higher resolution introduces additional problems. Therefore finding an optimum resolution is a practical solution. To achieve this, the present LED optical architecture is surveyed and modified in this thesis. In particular, this thesis proposes several new ideas and suggestions: Firstly, the present optical architecture can just pair up with a low resolution sensor. Secondly, the contrast is the highest when the main reflecting rays of light from smooth surfaces are utilized by the system. Hence new illumination systems are propped and its performance is simulated. The current mouse sensor does not need higher resolution but need better control of shutter speed, larger depth range of gray scale, and associated software. Finally, some high performance lenses and optical architectures are designed.
