الملخص:With the rapid development of the economy and society, the consumption of energy shows continuous increase. However, earth fossil fuel resources are finite and therefore with the depletion of the fuel resources, so we need a new and sustainable resource to substitute the fossil fuels. Due to their clean, renewable and environmental-friendly characteristics, renewable energy sources can be actively considered. However, the uncontrollable weather dictates the amount of generation that can be harnessed from these sources. So the production of the electricity from the renewable sources cannot match the load demand exactly at all time. The consequence would be un-acceptable network voltage/frequency variations. The security and reliability of the network will be compromised. Methods should be found in order to increase the amount of renewable energy without causing degradation in the network performance. This project intends to extend the use of hybrid storage system to cater for energy management, power quality and bridging power purposes. The hybrid energy storage system could include the use of different types of energy storage medium. Suitability and capacity of each of the storage media would depend on the power level and the full charge/discharge cycle time expected for each application.
