Sound projection using a robust video tracking system based on kinect

3D sound systems are extremely common in recent years. However in most cases, the 3D sound system is being targeted at a wide audience instead of an individual. If there is a system that can track the location of the ears of an individual and direct sound beams to that user’s ears, it would...

However in most cases, the 3D sound system is being targeted at a wide audience instead of an individual. If there is a system that can track the location of the ears of an individual and direct sound beams to that user’s ears, it would completely change the way an individual interacts with sound. One of the ways used to create the system that allows for ear tracking is by using the Kinect sensor which is an inexpensive and affordable device that has limitless potential for exploration. Additionally, Microsoft has developed a Kinect Software Development Kit (SDK) that can greatly help developers who intend to use the Kinect for application developments. The author will be using the Skeleton Basics WPF C# codes, a program that has been installed together with the Kinect SDK, as the basis to expand her project on. The project will be done in C# programming language on Microsoft Visual C# Express 2010 as the platform for running the codes, and on a Windows 7 Operating System. This Report shows the research the author has done, the implementation of the project, the methods used and finally a reflection on the advantages, limitations and further developments for this project.
