Compared to other industries, it is more difficult to improve the industry's performance because of the traditional practices and environmental factors that are peculiar to the industry. Volatile changes in the business cycle, the need to exert a lot of physical effort, and the high level of fatal accidents have made the industry unpopular for local Singaporeans. However, to improve the performance of the industry, we need to retain the talented labour pool.
