Designing a quieter home using active noise control techniques

Noise pollution is a pervasive part of any urban society with adverse impacts on societal well-being, work productivity, and individual health. Thus, there is a growing need to mitigate noise in the environment. In land scarce and densely populated areas like Singapore, passive noise control (PNC) methods such as noise barriers are not always feasible and are costly to construct. Furthermore, noise barriers are not effective in attenuating noise for high- rise buildings. This project is part of ongoing research into designing quieter homes using active noise control (ANC). The project seeks to address the limitations of PNC by using ANC methods to reduce noise instead. ANC systems will be developed using National Instruments LabVIEW software and implemented on a demonstration setup. The experimental results are analysed and a conclusion on the project findings is done. Finally, recommendations for future works are given.
