Summary: | Advancement of the Photonic Crystal Fiber (PCF) since 1995 has increased immense enthusiasm to the research and development industry and many researches has been conducted since then. The main reason is PCF has immune to electromagnetic interface and their unique dispersion profiles and superior properties that have accomplished different achievement which normal optical fiber that could not able to deliver. As the result, the popularity of the PCF has increased rapidly throughout ever since it was being introduced.
In this report, the explanation of the fundamental theory of the optical fiber, single-mode fiber, multi-mode fiber, PCF and how light waves being propagating in the fiber will be secured. Moreover, it will also explain about how does fabrication was being conducted for PCF to be used as the sensing device for experiment utilization.
The experiment will be utilizing two sensors with the same fabrication techniques as a refractive index sensing devices which involves the detection of wavelength shifting whenever the refractive index of the medium changes. The medium used in this experiment is salt water to able to determine the results. End of this report, the goal and discussion will be further elaborated and demonstrated accordingly. |
