Serum and red cell folate and serum total folate binding protein (TFBP) levels were found to be higher in cord blood than in maternal blood, pregnant and non-pregnant women. But serum unsaturated folate binding protein (UFBP) levels in pregnant women and mother's blood were significantly higher than in cord blood. There was no relationship between serum folate levels in cord blood and maternal blood. The correlation between serum folate levels and serum SFBP and serum TFBP levels were observed in cord blood in the present study.
