Hassan Azhari

Hassan bin Haji Azhari (18 August 1928 – 6 October 2018) was a Malaysian and Muslim scholar who is renowned for his proficiency in ''tarannum tajwid'' and ''qira'at'', he is a distinguished scholar in the field of al-Quran studies. He was a well-known educator who gained notoriety for his work on the Radio Televisyen Malaysia's (RTM) ''Muqaddam'' television programme in the 1970s and for shouting the call to prayer in 1957, the year Malaysia gained its independence. In addition, he performed the call to prayer during the opening of a number of well-known mosques, such as Brunei's Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque and Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Mosque.
