Consequently, an increasing number of population and the economic growth as a trade city have to be supported by a life quality improvement and a good sanitation provision. Therefore, a provision of good sanitation facilities is needed to prevent en v i ronmen t such as the soil, ground water and the river contamination by people's waste. On the other hand, it proven from Musi River condition which is contaminated mostly by domestic sewage. Therefore, this domestic sewage needs special treatment before it discharge to the river, those are why a Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) has to build. To distribute the sewage from the residence to WWTP, a sewerage system will be needed. This sewerage system is expected to increase the quality of environmental sanitation as seen on Rencana Tata Ruang Wilayah (RTRW) Palembang City. Considering the high population density, a high water supply (80%), the low level of soil permeability (3x10-4cm/mnt), the flat gradient (0.5-2.5%), and the high percentage of septic tank users (up to 70%), therefore the most appropriate alternative for Palembang's Sewerage System is Small Bore Sewer (SBS). SBS is andsewerage system which lead the septic tank liquid effluent to the WWTP, and the solids portion, grease and scum are removed in a solids interceptor tank. Furthermore the design of the sewerage system for Palembang city will be discuss, including the detail design of the pipe-line network and the supporting accessories in sewerage system. text |
