Summary: | Bathymetric survey is one of the hydrographic works for engineering or for other practical needs. The accuracy of bathymetric survey depends on GPS, which plays a big role to give us highly precisioned coordinates. GPS is a suitable system for bathymetric survey activities because it can receive real time position data by using the differential positioning method.

Based on the differential method, GPS needs a reliable reference station with a proper length of baseline so it can give high accuracy position data if we are commencing a real time survey, where coordinates must be received once on that time. With the reference station locations vary from the survey area, then we could analyze the effect of baseline's length to the GPS measurement accuracy.

This research will discuss about the horizontal position accuracy, as it changes due to baseline’s length, which includes the easting and the northing standard deviation. We analyzed different baselines length: 100 km, 76 km, 51 km, 34 km, and 9 km. There are two scenarios used to calculate the data. The first is a static point calculated kinematically and the second is a calculation of a moving point.

It appears that the accuracy level which given from each measurements varies as the baseline’s length increased since it has been simulated in real time condition. By using a mathematical model, the linear regression and exponential approachment, we could describe the changes of accuracy level and there we can use it as a reference to do a real time bathymetric survey. |
