THE IMPACT of HORTICULTURE AGRICULTURAL ACTIVITY TO ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY IN SOUTHERN BANDUNG

Economics development that accompanied with technological change, affects at very tightening competition and force business activity to increase. More and more the increasing of development activity in Bandung Regency, especially at main sectors causes more impact to this area. In the rural area which remain to maintains its development emphasis at agricultural sector, tries makes balance to the global economic activity and the increasing of population so that is worried of exploitation on land which unmatched to conservation method.<p>Agriculture has influenced the life of Southern Bandung citizen, either economical and also culture social. Big potency of agriculture in area Southern Bandung supported by land suitability, faces degradation problem of environmental quality, especially degradation of soil, water quality and surface and erosion. Degradation of the environmental quality, were assumed caused by agricultural activity. The problems otherwise soon is handled, hence will result lowering of amount and continuity of agriculture produce and on a long term will increase poverty.<p>Result of study shows that horticulture agricultural activity in Southern Bandung still paying less attention to its impact to environment. Economic factor or advantage from maximizing of exploiting of farm becomes impeller in this behavior, like usage of chemicals in increasing yield, height of cropping intensity, usage of planting strain which unidirectional of ramp and high crop cut down. Cropping intensity and level of production area in Pangalengan District (district with big production area), felt affects is bigger to environmental quality than Pacet District (district with small production area).<p>At policy side, environmental study in Southern Bandung by Dinas Lingkungan Hidup about degradation of quality and water amount at upriver Citarum and economics activity in vicinity has not been made as a base in activity and policy applied in region Southern Bandung. <br /> <br />
