As an added value, communication service is often offered with other service integrated with the communication service. One of it is Location Based Service (LBS), which is a service given to mobile device user as a result of some process function using user geographical information.<p align="justify"><p>From the LBS concept, an instant messenger application was created. In this application, the users can do communication with other users by sending message in text form which happens real time. This application runs as a client on mobile device, and communicates by connecting and sending data to the computer which acts as the application server. Server is a process and control center, and also a storage server for every communication activities.<p align="justify"><p>This application also support the location finding function. Application's user who has access to Global Positioning System (GPS) can choose to send his or her location coordinat data to server which will be processed by the server as a location information for other user. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> This application is created on Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) platform. To communicate with server, it uses socket communication method. This application was tested in Institut Teknologi Bandung environment, by using ITB's computer network infrastructure. Mobile device as a client can access server and run all features using Wireless Local Area Network or any other internet connection like GPRS which can be used by server. <br /> text |
