Steam distillation has been done to study it's influence to the characteristic of vetiver oil. International market request khusimol as quality parameter of vetiver oil, so analytical method development of khusimol absolutely required. Vetiver oil has been isolated from drying roots of vetiver plant by steam distillation. Color, smell and density of this oil were examined. Khusimol was analyzed by GC-MS. The oil was distillated by fractional reduce pressure and it's spot was determined from each fraction by TLC. Vetiver oil was produced by Steam distillation obtained in 0,7084% yield which color is brown-red but have a little sandbar odor. Density was 0,96132. Khusimol has retention time at 27,815 minute and value was 10,16%. Vetiver oil which is produced by steam distillation has khusimol value that appropriate with ISO 4716/2002. text
