Description
Summary:An improved measurement of formaldehyde in toothpastes is reported. Free formaldehyde was steam distilled from toothpastes an derivatized with a solution of 2,4-dinitrophenylhidrazine. The corresponding hydrazone was analyzed by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) using a C18 column and a mixture of acetonitrile-phosphate buffer pH 4.0 (45:55) as mobile phase. The method had been validated by testing its linearity, LOQ, accuracy, and precision. The result showed that this method had higher sensitivity compared to existing method. The validated HPLC method had been used for determination of formaldehyde content in commercial toothpaste.
