Description
Summary:Barium Carbonate (BaCO3) is commonly used as an energizer in packcarburization. This research more emphasized to the mollusc type such as African Land Snail and Gold Apple Snail as alternative sources of energizer. Samples were carburized at temperature 950oC, placed in box of cementation that contains mixture of medium carburization with composition 10%wt, 20%wt, 30%wt, 40%wt, and 50%wt to each energizer. This processes take place with holding time for 2 hours and continued normalizing. For heat treatment process, heating at temperature 850oC during 30 minute continued water-quenched at the same time twirled underwater. The results obtained show that the optimal Effective Case Depth is 10% wt energizer for both medium carburizing composition. The ECD for addition 10%wt African Giant Snail shell (contains 98-99% CaCO3) is 1,42 mm and 1,55 mm for addition 10%wt Gold Snail (contains 95-99% CaCO3) shell as an energizer. The efficacy defined as an comparison between ECD with addition energizer to ECD 100 %wt Chorcoal coconut shell. The efficacy 258 % resulted with addition 10 %wt energizer African Snail Shell and 210 % resulted with addition 10 %wt energizer Gold Snail Shell.
