To answer this research question, the following steps are conducted in this study: (1) studying available literature, (2) conducting interviews with CIO's to understand the real situation, (3) conducting a small survey, (4) analyzing and interpreting the survey's result by using multivariate analysis. The unit analysis of this study is CIO on manager level. The Information Technology Manager is someone who has responsibilities in computer installation and maintenance including hardware, software, and networking.<p> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Competency is someone's long term behavior and ability, consistency; and is not just a coincident (Spencer & Spencer, 1993). Competency can be used to predict a success and is empirically proven to cause success.<p> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Interviews with CIO were executed in 11 service companies in Bandung. Questionnaires were given to 40 IT managers in service companies in Bandung. There were 34 questionnaires used for analysis. Cluster analysis followed by discriminate analysis was used in this study. This study shows that minimum competencies needed to be a CIO are: (1) having strategic orientation, (2) building relationship, (3) developing others, (4) Team leadership, (5) having self confidence, (6) having the ability to design network, (7) maintaining website service, (8) having ability to use and install database, (9) solving hardware and software problems. text |
