Mining tourism development vision, which is being promoted by local government in 2001, only reaches success if the image of mining heritage of the industrial revolution has been well developed. Historical interpretation has been known as an effective way to communicate heritage significance in an entertaining way. Mining heritage interpretation has also been widely applicated in former mine in Sovereign Hill and Mount Alexander (Australia), Big Pit National Coal Museum (Blaevanon, Wales) and also Bingham Canyon (America). From the normative and empirical research, interactive storytelling technique potentially improves emotional connection between the site and its spectator. Storytelling technique capable to tie the spectator focuses by providing them provocative, entertaining and structured experience. Storytelling technique in the urban space means a method to change identity symbol into memory stimulus. The project is a case study that explores if the set of design principles within the storytelling approach can invest meaning into mining heritage Sawahlunto. These design principles then will benefit community, economically, culture dan physical needs in heritage site. This project also refer to a chance to resolve and restore the heritage significance of Sawahlunto as a big coal mine in its time. <br /> text |
