Description
Summary:Along with the increasing population, the contamination of waste on to the environment is being increased, included water contamination. The water had been contaminated by the entry of pollutant material, such as detergent. Waste water treatement plant usually remove detergent with chemically anda physically treatment as well as biological treatment. Though, this approach unlikely can't remove all detergent in the water. So as the effluent throw to the environment, it still could be harmful. The present of Advanced Oxydation Processes (AOP) give another alternative to treat water contaminated by detergent. AOP decompose the pollutant based on the presence of hidroxyl radical (OH*) as oxidizing agent. This scavenging hydroxil radical (OH*) can be obtained with ultrasonic irradiation. In this research, ultrasonic irradiation of 200 KHz on aqueous liquid with initial surfactant concentration 3, 5, 10 mg/L and various irradiation time of 5, 10, 20 ,30 , 45, and 60 minute has been investigated. The result is, the highest surfactant removal derived after 60 minute irradiation, i.e 100 %, 47.94 %, and 58.09 % for initial concentration 3, 5, and 10 mg/L. Further experiment using original waste water (from washing-machine) with initial surfactant concentration of 7.894 mg/L give the removal efficiency approximately 38.36 % after 60 minute irradiation. Beside the surfactant concentration, this experiment also examined the other parameter of the original waste water, i.e temperature, pH, organic compound, and turbidity. <br />
