Not only in its biological resources, but also develop in its wave energy potentials. Based on this fact, this Final Project will study about the wave energy potentials in one of the regions in Indonesia and analyze its feasibilty to be a commercial wave power plant.

Sabang is chosen as potential location because it is located near the Indian Ocean and not facing many islands which can reduce the wave energy. Besides, there is a good and complete needed-data in this region. The gotten data is a wind data in every 3 hours for one year. This wind data is processed to become a wave data through several procedures.

The wave data which has been gotten is showing that the majority of the wave is happened in east and west direction, and a few of it is happened in south west direction. But the majority wave energy only happen in the east and west direction, because the wave in the south west direction only has a small height and period.

Based on this information, Pelamis 750 kW is located in the east to west direction, so it absorp the energy from both of the direction. Every unit of Pelamis 750 kW can produce energy up to 79,5% of the total wave energy from every directions. Capacity factor of this device is only 8%.

For the development of commercial wave power plant, rated power of Pelamis is reduced to 100 kW and assumed that it has constant 80% of efficiency. So th capacity factor of this device is increased to 60,10%.

The wave power plant is designed to consist of 180 unit of Pelamis 100 kW, so it will have 18 MW power rating and produce electrical energy up to 94.825,8 MWh/years. With several assumptions, the estimated cost for the development of this wave power plant is $ 146 millions. Considering the operating and maintenance cost, overhaul and replacement cost, and 5% discount rate, the cost of electricity of this wave power plant is 21,60 cents/kWh. text
