Since IPA is mostly sold in technical grade, i.e. 95%-v, the dehydration is needed.<p> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> One of the methods for dehydrating water from IPA is adsorption. The purpose of this research is to construct a batch adsorption column and to test its performance, to know the most effective adsorbent that can be used for the process, and to know the performances of the IPA anhydrate produced.<p> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The experiment on dehydration variation was done by changing regeneration time and adsorption velocity. Experiment was done at 1 atm and azeotrope temperature. Column that was used for this operation consists of two columns, 3 ½ inch diameter and 2 ¼ inch diameter, which 2 ¼-inch-diameter-column installed inside the 3 ½-inch-diameter-column. The annulus between two columns was used as channel for the heater fluid.<p> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Research showed that the apparatus packed with molecular sieve is able to effectively remove water from mixture of IPA-water. It was also clarified that anhydrous IPA can increase theresearch octane number (RON) of gasoline mixed with it. Furthermore, the addition of anhydrous IPA into gasoline can significantly reduce the exhaust emission gases emitted from car. text
