Summary: | One of the popular Indonesian herbal medicines is jamu. However, adulteration had been found in several jamu. To assure the jamu not to contain any synthetic drugs, a validated method was needed to detect the presence of such adulteration. In jamu for slimming body, furosemide and hydrochlorothiazide is synthetic drug which should be examined. Furosemide and hydrochlorothiazide was analyzed by thin layer chromatography densitometry using silica gel GF254 plate with a development solvent of methanol : ethyl acetate (2:3), and then the spot was detected at 254 nm. The recovery of furosemide were 97.7–99.1%, and the recovery of hydrochlorothiazide were 92.0-98.3 %. The developed method can be used for analysis of furosemide with a detection limit of 0.11 mg/mL, quantitation limit of 0.33 mg/mL, and for hydrochlorothiazide with a detection limit of 0.10 mg/mL, quantitation limit of 0.31 mg/mL. However, in 22 samples which had not found furosemide and hydrochlorothiazide. |
