USAGE PATTERN OF EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES BY SOCIETY IN SINGKAWANG CITY

The growth and development of Singkawang city as city level II which functions as Sub Regional Development Center of the Northern Coast Area at West Kalimantan which covered service areas to all previous territories of Old Sambas Region such as Sambas Region, Bengkayang Region and Singkawang city had encouraged improvement at all sections. It would significantly cause an raising of amount of population in Singkawang city which had increased demand on various social facilities; one of them is educational facilities.<p>The lacking of quantity and quality of educational facilities in Singkawang city had caused high rate of movement of population toward educational facilities at center of Singkawang city. This study is aimed to know current and future usage pattern of educational facilities in order to formulate an appropriate solution for supplying and distributing educational facilities well, qualifiedly and evenly in Singkawang city. It can be reached by analyzing facility supply, evaluating standard usage at determining a number of educational facility, tabulating primer data and then examined statistically by Chi-square and Coefficient contingency to know relationship between variables.<p>Generally, facility supply of elementary and high educations had still undergone some lacks of educational facilities so unable to cover exist school age population to continue study, and the supply had been done relatively inefficient and ineffective in attracting society interest for using the educational facilities.<p>This research had found that society movement in using educational facilities was influenced by household income level, formal educational level, motor bike ownership, and number of worked people at family unit. The higher attribute level of family unit, the larger tendency to not use local facilities. Beside that, the lack of quantity and quality educational facilities has also influenced toward the movements. Therefore, Local Government in Singkawang city in supplying educational facilities should consider used standard namely based on school age population and increase quantity and quality of educational facilities according to exist need level which distributed evenly in order society can use educational facilities optimally. <br /> <br />
