Summary: | Safety assessment is a necessary procedure in aircraft development, including the Wing in Surface Effect aircraft WiSE-8 which is developed by Aerospace Engineering of ITB and Indonesia BPPT. This process should be able to evaluate all WiSE-8 aircraft's functions and systems to ensure that all safety risks have been taken into account, in order to receive a flight certification. Safety assessment process of WiSE-8 aircraft based on SAE ARP 4761 had been done before but some lackings are identified in the implementation procedure.<p>In this research, a literature study carried out to fulfill the lackings of safety assessment procedure. The improvements are creating a method to identify functions, creating a method to identify failure modes, inserting the results of failure modes identification into Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA) process, and conducting System Safety Assessment (SSA) process. After improving the safety assessment procedure, it is then implemented into WiSE-8 aircraft and the results are in detail. The implementation of safety assessment improvement made a success of identifying WiSE-8 aircraft functions more than the previous implementation. The implementation also succeed in identifying WiSE-8 aircraft failure modes. Because of more functions and failure modes are identified, aircraft systems which are analyzed in the Preliminary System Safety Assessment (PSSA) process are also more than the previous implementation. Unfortunately, WiSE-8 aircraft systems data are not available for the System Safety Assessment (SSA) process, therefore the SSA process has been conducted by using hypothetical data. |
