Summary: | The effect of menthol as penetration enhancer on the extent of diffused ibuprofen from hydroxypropylcellulose-based gel has been studied. Ibuprofen gel with various concentration of menthol (0%, 1,25%, 3,35%) has been made. Evaluation was done by determining the amount of ibuprofen diffused through an artificial membrane at certain time interval for 180 minutes at 37+1oC. Formulation of gel with the most percentage of diffused ibuprofen was gone through stability test by keeping it at 40oC with relative humidity of 75% for 28 days. Viscosity, pH, and the concentration of ibuprofen in gel was measured at the first, second, third, and fourth week during storage time. Diffusion test showed that formulation which gave the best diffusion was gel with composition of ibuprofen 5%, ethanol 60%, and menthol 1,25%. Addition of menthol into the formula didn't affect the stability of gel during stability test. |
