Summary:Acid neutralizing capacity (ANC) is one of the important factor on effectivity determination of antacid dosage forms. Antacid dosage forms have different values depend on their ANC. The aim of this study is to evident of two factors, there are calcination and powder particle size on ANC. Active ingredients that used was hydrotalcite. Effect of calcined and particle size distribution on ANC of hydrotalcite was carried out by modifying its physical character. Calcined was carried out at temperature 100, 300, and 500 oC temperature. Particle size of hydrotalcite that used were 25, 50, 100, 125, and 140 um. Analysis methods that used were Powder X-Ray Diffractometer (PXRD) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Afterwards, ANC value of each sample was determined. Studied factor gave influence on ANC of each sample. The highest ANC value showed by sample with calcined at temperature 500 oC and its particle size <50 um. The higher calcined temperature and the more particle size, the higher ANC value of hydrotalcite.
