Recently, researches in alumina has been widely developed because it is largely abundant in nature. Alumina is often used in industry because of it's good chemical properties and thermal stability, relatively high strength, high thermal conductivity, and good electrical insulation characteristics. This research covers preparation of porous alumina using tape casting method. This porous alumina is typically used as a membrane support for catalytic converter application. The perimeter used in this experiment are the influence of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) composition as a binder and sintering temperature to the properties of the membrane support.

There are several material characterization techniques used to investigate the results of this experiments. Results obtained from the XRD analysis indicates that there is transformation phase (a-alumina to a-alumina) after sintering at 1200 degrees C. By conducting SEM analysis, we can see the microstructure images of porous alumina and learn that sintering temperature affects the porosity and particle size of alumina |
