Description
Summary:Low frequency oscillation is a power system dynamic stability problem which indicates the inability of the system to withstand small disturbance. The occurrence of this problem in the interconnection of northern and middle-southern of Sumatera causes the effort to be discontinued. This Final Project discusses the oscillation factors analysis in Sumatera system, emphasized on the inter-area modes oscillation. Dynamic stability improvement is done by adding damping torque through the activation of an additional control device for the generator excitation system, the Power System Stabilizer (PSS). By analyzing the participation factor of the oscillation mode, the proper placement of the PSS can be determined. In addition, the definition of the PSS's parameters is carried out by modeling the system into a Single Machine Infinite Bus (SMIB) and evaluating its condition which is represented by its eigen value afterwards. Simulation result shows that the placement of the PSS on the system can improve the dynamic stability of Sumatera system.
