A dual gas lift system consists of two strings in a single casing, namely short and long strings respectively. An amount of gas is injected via a compressor into two strings through gas injection valves. One of the main problems that arise in oil production field is how to control the distribution o...

An amount of gas is injected via a compressor into two strings through gas injection valves. One of the main problems that arise in oil production field is how to control the distribution of gas in each string in order to maintain the stability of oil production. Here, a mathematical model of gas injection distribution to each string is developed, taking into account the influence of wellhead pressure, valve size, oil production rate from each string and also the available gas injection rate. This problem is reduced into solving a system of equations consisting of valve flowing equations in each string and boundary value problem for pressure drop equations in each string. The problem is solved numerically by converting the system into an unconstrained optimization problem. Further a Genetic Algorithm method is used to solve the optimization problem. Numerical results for prediction of gas injection rate in each string are shown for variation of valve size, wellhead pressure, total gas injection rate and oil production rates. text
