XYZ, comparing low and medium carbon steel which is carburized and then hardened and to apply pack carburization process on low carbon steel for chain fastener in Yamaha motorcycle.<p> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Pack carburization process is conducted using coconut charcoal 90% wt as the media and BaCO3 10% wt as the energizer where is put into cementation case and then heated in a furnace. The temperature for carburization process is 950 degrees C and holding time is 3 hours. Hardening process was conducted at 900 degrees C for 45 minutes and then quenched in water.<p> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Heat treatment process that is conducted at Metallurgy Engineering Laboratory FTI, ITB yields hardness value that is slightly different with the one conducted at PT. XYZ. Therefore we can conclude that heat treatment process conducted at PT. XYZ was not carburization process. Pack Carburization in Low carbon steel yields an increase in the percentage of carbon at the surface from 0,22% C to 1,03% C and hardness value at this surface reach 1037 HV0,2 (quench in water), as for medium carbon steel percentage of carbon is increase from 0,5% C to 1,17% C with hardness value 1119 HV0,2 (quench in water).<p> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Test conducted to Yamaha motorcycle chain fastener at PT. XYZ shows that die and punch can produce at least 950 pieces component. The quality of those products is not different with the quality of medium carbon steel and tool steel products. text
